BVEC Hosts Claims Clinic in Shreveport

Today, Black Veterans Empowerment Council Inc. in partnership with member organization Buffalo Soldiers Shreveport Local-Independent Chapter and Veterans Guardian, completed a major disability claims clinic in Shreveport, Louisiana. 237 veterans attended, 96 of those veterans were at 0 percent disability rating, 23 at 10 percent, and 7 at 20 percent. 71 percent of attendees were barely receiving disability benefits— that’s uncalled for. Three rooms at the Shreveport Convention Center were filled with Black veterans looking to receive benefits after being denied repeatedly. At the clinic, veterans were able to receive help from benefits experts. This is how we stop suicides and homelessness amongst our communities!
